See how to attach a table top to allow for wood movement. In a previous video, we showed how a table top was destroyed because it was attached in a way that didn't allow for wood movement. This is a follow-up video as requested by our viewers.

Wood moves perpendicular to the grain, or "across the grain" through the seasons of the year. When there is more humidity in the air, boards will swell and become wider. In the winter, when there is less humidity in the air, the wood will shrink and the boards will become narrower. If this wood movement is not taken into consideration when working with solid wood, you could end up building furniture that will break over time.
