Is Trauma Locking Your Client's Depression in Place?

It's certainly not the case that all depressions lead back to one simple cause. The aetiology of a depression can be protracted and complex and may involve the gradual fracturing or a person's life and their capacity to meet their emotional needs.

They begin to ruminate excessively, stress builds followed by an eventual collapse in energy and motivation (and therefore confidence and hope).

But sometimes, just sometimes, we can trace a depression back to a specific trauma. And once we do that and deal effectively with the trauma we are then much better placed to help the client form the kind of life that will help them meet their emotional needs.

If PTSD or trauma is locking a depression in place and we don't help our clients comfortably process that trauma then all the best depression treatments in the world might not work until the trauma is resolved.

And so I hope you find these tips useful for your clients.
