About the episode:

I thought it would be a good idea to combine shot lists from Shutterstock & Pond5 and make my comments on them. I hope this helps you have an overview of what is trending and what the market is buying these days. This should be useful for stock filmmakers, stock photographers, and stock illustrators.

I also brought some cool updates about my own online course giveaway, Adobe Stock giveaway of Creative Cloud subscriptions, and my opinion on the recent commission updates from Storyblocks.

If you’re a Storyblocks contributor, you probably received an email from their CEO, TJ Leonard. The email announces the company’s new efforts to grow marketplace sales. Storyblocks used to pay a commission rate of 100%.To align their business needs and marketing costs, they will change their commission to a 50/50 structure on both video and image.

Although 50% is a significant rate, I have to remind you that this is the smallest rate when comparing to the other big agencies. Pond5 takes 50%, Adobe Stock 65%, Shutterstock 70. My personal decision, for now, is to keep my stock videos there. If they’re really investing in marketing, then I’d say I prefer getting 50% of something than 100% of nothing.
