Our experts spent a year with the 2017 Honda Ridgeline.

Edmunds director of vehicle testing Dan Edmunds takes a close look at our long-term 2017 Honda Ridgeline, Honda's unique take on what a pickup truck should be. The newly redesigned Ridgeline is based on the crossover platform of the Honda Pilot and offers a smooth, quiet ride. Add that to a comfortable interior and ample cargo space, and the Ridgeline is especially suited to people who want the utility of a pickup but don't plan to go off-roading regularly.

Q. What makes the Honda Ridgeline different from other trucks?
A. It's the only vehicle in its class to have carlike unibody construction and a fully independent suspension. The combination gives the Ridgeline a more comfortable ride quality than traditional pickups with their body-on-frame construction and solid rear-axle suspension.

Q. How much is the Honda Ridgeline?
A. A base Ridgeline starts at $30,415. Our Ridgeline RTL-E rings in at $42,270.

Q. Does the Ridgeline have any drawbacks?
A. A potential drawback to the Ridgeline is its reduced towing and off-road abilities, at least compared to rivals.
