Is 5 minutes a day enough to learn Chinese? Will colorful visualizations and creative questions make up for pronunciation errors? Let's take a look at the Drops language app this week and see what we can find!
~TIME STAMPS~
0:00 || Intro
0:36 || Download + Setup
2:09 || Lesson 0 ("tutorial")
3:36 || Lesson 1 (Foods)
7:52 || Browsing and thoughts on Day #1
9:16 || Day #2 (Radicals, Travel Talk, Prison)
14:56 || Final Thoughts
TL:DR
Drops presents information in manageable sizes and uses nontraditional questions to keep things interesting. It also offers Cantonese and Traditional characters. However, a game-like interface that's great for reviewing vocabulary is not enough to make up for the low quality, computer-synthesized voice that makes pronunciation errors 5% - 10% of the time. I would only use this app if I'm an intermediate learner who knows how to read pinyin well.
