I rebuilt the entire engine on my Yamaha YZ 250F and put it back in the frame without checking the valve clearances, today I measure the clearances between the camshafts and the valve lifters
It’s regular maintenance on a 4 stroke motocross, so it should help if you want to check and set your valve clearances 👨🏻‍🔧

The symptoms you may already know: your engine becomes harder to start (or the bike doesn’t start at all), or it pops a lot when cutting throttle… then it’s possible your valve clearances became too tight overtime
A clearance too tight - or even at 0 - means that when parts dilate with heat, you have the possibility of having a valve that doesn’t close or seal anymore

So let’s take the torque wrench with the feeler gauges and measure the play between camshafts lobes and valve lifters ! 🔧

Hi I'm Tristan!
I live in New York and when I'm not working on my fitness clothing line (https://yoked.net) I DIY with intensity 😅
For now, I restore wrecked, neglected or simply damaged motorcycles. So I disassemble, weld, machine and fix those bikes so they can go back on the road!
