Can you tell me why these electronics have to cost so darn much?

My partner and I are faced with making some hard decisions. Should we spend a tremendous amount of money to upgrade our Mooney M20C? If so, what path should we take. It will take some unique financial strategies to make this work. But assuming we can pull it off, there is still the open question of what path makes most sense.
