In this educational video, Professor Helen Berry (Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences, University of Exeter) walks us through the current exhibition at The Street Gallery (IAIS) called 'CHALLENGING LEGACIES - THE KINGDOM OF IRAQ & GERTRUDE BELL', a joint collaboration with ‪@newcastleuni‬'s 'Special Collections & Archives', colleagues from ‪@universityofexeter‬'s Archaeology & History Department, and supported by the DAME (Digital Archive of the Middle East) Project.

This exhibition explores the events that led to the creation of the Kingdom of Iraq in 1921 and the role played by archaeologist and colonial administrator, Gertrude Bell, told through the unique photographic and documentary heritage of the ‪@UNESCO‬ Gertrude Bell Archive. This video offers an introduction into the archive and the vast resources it holds, offering new realms of historical investigation within MENA and postcolonial studies.
