“Just apropos that the game ended like that,” said manager Bob Melvin, who managed both sides of the rivalry after having spent 11 seasons skippering the A’s. “When I was here we had so many walk-offs, so many extra-inning wins, close games where fans are going crazy. I don’t know how it could have been more perfect to end it like this, obviously with us winning.”

With that, the cross-bay rivals split the last Bay Bridge Series at 2-2 this season, but Oakland wins the final tally at 76-72 all-time against San Francisco.

The handful of former A’s who now play for the Giants didn’t leave without something to remember the Coliseum by. Matt Chapman took home the game’s third-base bag — the position where he won two Platinum Glove awards for Oakland. Mark Canha took a handful of ballpark dirt. Melvin, who grew up attending concerts, football and basketball games on this property, took one last look.
