This is a great spot for beginner surfers! Best known as The Hook, The 38th Ave Beach or Jack’s (as in Jack O’Neil the inventor of the first wet suit because his green beach house is perched on a nearby cliff). You can park at the Pleasure Point Parking area (511 41st Ave Santa Cruz, CA) where there are restrooms and VERY cold showers to wash off the sand. There are fantastic overlooks of the water and surfers below! There is a fantastic surfer vibe in this little area and you can lean a little bit about surfing just by watching.
