The counting of votes for the high-stakes assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir has begun, with early trends showing the Congress taking a lead in Haryana and the Congress-NC alliance ahead in J&K. In Haryana, the Congress looks set to return to power after a decade, with key candidates like Bhupinder Singh Hooda leading in Garhi Sampla-Kiloi. The state recorded a 67.9% voter turnout. In J&K, which saw its first election since the abrogation of Article 370, the Congress-NC alliance is leading but the BJP is holding its ground in Jammu seats. Omar Abdullah is ahead in Ganderbal, while Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija trails in Srigufwara-Bijbehara. J&K saw a 63.45% turnout across three phases. Exit polls had predicted a Congress win in Haryana and an edge for the Congress-NC alliance in J&K, which appears to be heading for a hung assembly. The results will decide the future course of these two key states.
