Watch it!! Before Buying 2025 Suzuki Ignis: The Quirky Hybrid Crossover?!

Introducing Suzuki's quirky contender, the Ignis, a rival to not only the Volkswagen Up, Hyundai i10, and Toyota Aygo but also the Dacia Duster. The Ignis is a city car with a twist: it's a 4x4 crossover, a hybrid, and an endearing companion all in one.

The design of the Ignis is, in our opinion, one of the most charming and cool city car designs since the boxy Volkswagen Up. It even has a hint of retro with its roof pillar dimples, reminiscent of the 1970s Suzuki Whizzkid.

However, don’t be mistaken—it’s not just a throwback. The Ignis boasts a new platform, new engines, and a fresh interior design. At under 900 kg, it’s ultra-lightweight, thanks to the use of super high-strength steel. This allows Suzuki to keep the weight down without compromising on strength.

With a base weight of just 895 kg, the Ignis is lighter than its key rivals despite its hybrid-only powertrain. The mid-life update has brought a shinier grille, improved sound deadening, and refined interior details. Additionally, 12v mild-hybrid technology is now standard across the range, providing a smoother stop/start process in traffic.

Despite the hybrid system, the Ignis maintains a fuel economy of over 50 mpg in real-world driving, against a claimed 55.7 mpg. The battery, weighing just 7 kg, is positioned under the rear seats, preserving boot space and keeping the center of gravity low. The Ignis offers a five-speed manual transmission with Suzuki’s satisfying shift or an automatic gearbox option. The AllGrip all-wheel-drive system, available on the SZ5 model, provides decent off-road capabilities, filling the gap left by the Suzuki Jimny.

Starting at £16,249 for the base SZ-T model and £17,249 for the SZ5, the Ignis is slightly pricier than some competitors like the Fiat 500 but compensates with its character and versatility.
the Suzuki Ignis is an unsung hero among small cars. With its unique design, hybrid efficiency, light off-roading capabilities, and overall charm, it stands out as a compelling choice in the city car market.
