This week on the allotment we have had all the weather! Vlogging in the rain mostly! But because of the rain we have decided to lift (harvest) the shallots that were grown from sets. They probably could have done with a few days of sunshine but the weather has been so wet they are in danger of rotting out in the ground if we didn't harvest them! They are a little safer because of being grown in a raised bed but they are starting to look a bit soft.
I am also tidying up the tomatoes that are growing in the polytunnel. The tomatoes are getting quite tall and i am pruning them and tying in the plants and tightening the strings they are growing up. I also give the tomatoes a really good feed with a liquid seaweed feed. Feeding tomatoes is really important at this stage just as they are beginning to produce their first fruit!
After that i am sowing loads of lettuce seeds into module trays ready for planting out when the current lot are finished.
The varieties i am sowing are -
