He was the son of Najm Uddin Ayyubi, the military commander and governor of Aleppo and Damascus. His Uncle Asad Uddin Shirku was also a military commander of Sultan Nur Uddin Zangi. Najm al-Din Ayyub (also known as Najm ad-Din Ayub) was the father of Saladin, the famous Sultan of Egypt and Syria. He was a Kurdish soldier and politician who played a key role in the early life and career of Saladin.
Najm al-Din Ayyub was a member of the Zengid dynasty and served as a military commander under Zengi, the ruler of Aleppo. He later became the governor of Baalbek and then Damascus.
Najm al-Din Ayyub was known for his wisdom, courage, and strong sense of justice, which had a significant influence on Saladin's upbringing and future leadership. He died in 1173, before Saladin rose to power. After Shawar was assassinated and Shirkuh died in 1169, al-Adid appointed Saladin as vizier. Qutb al-Din Mawdud, her brother, who was the ruler of Mosul.
Sanjar-Shah, her brother, who was the ruler of Jazira. Rabia Khatun, her sister.
