Earpers, the time has come! Three years after the show ended, the original cast of the iconic "Wynonna Earp" series, has joined forces once again for a special!

The 90-minute Tubi original, "Wynonna Earp: Vengeance," follows the spicy, hard-living, demon-slaying anti-heroine and great-great-granddaughter of legendary lawman Wyatt Earp – as she returns, once again, to her hometown of Purgatory to battle her greatest foe yet: a psychotic villainess hellbent on revenge against Wynonna… and everyone she loves.

The film out now on Tubi, features fan-favorite couple Waverly Earp, played by Dominique Provost-Chalkley and Nicole Haught, played by Katherine Barrell. The two joined GLAAD’s Allison Bloom to talk about the project.

Barrell shares that her initial reaction to finding out they’d all be coming back together to create the special was “joy.” She continues, “I think we we weren’t ever expecting that we could come back. There was always a little glimmer of hope, but I think for myself, I had made peace with the fact that maybe we weren’t… And so this just felt like and a completely unexpected like bonus surprise.”

Provost-Chalkley agrees, saying “We really had said our goodbyes, I think in many ways because you couldn’t have wrapped up season four in a more perfect way,” they say about the 3-time GLAAD Media Award nominated series that ended in 2021. “So, when I heard that it was actually happening, it was extreme excitement and also curiosity to see where the story is gonna go from here.”

Barrell describes the special as “a love letter to the fans.” She says that while fans of the original can expect “so many fun easter eggs,” it is still accessible to anyone, even if they haven’t watched the series. She describes it as a “kind of the gateway drug that will hopefully encourage them to come into the fandom and maybe watch the series.”

“The essence of the show still remains even if we’re in a new chapter and we find these characters in a new place,” Provost-Chalkley adds.

They talk a bit about how #Wayhaught’s relationship has evolved over the course of the past few years. “We find them still very much in love,” Barrell says. “I think they’re sinking into what the next chapter is going to be like. This is really what happens after happily ever after. So often, we stop following characters. We have the big wedding and the series ends. She shares that it is “amazing representation to get to see these characters who fans have lived with for all these years. And then see, what does married life look like? How are we gonna continue to be individuals inside our partnership?”

Provost-Chalkley shares, “As much as I appreciate the beautiful, romantic display of relationship, I think there’s something so reassuring that we get to see the conflict points and the things that come up for them. I really enjoyed exploring that.”

To close, they talk about how exciting it has been to bring LGBTQ representation to the Western genre. “That’s one of the coolest elements of the show,” Provost-Chalkley says. They talk about how the series creator Emily Andras “has just flipped everything on its head and been like, ‘Alright, in a world where it is usually very dominated and very hetero dominated, we’re going to make all of those characters female, and on top of that we’re gonna make two of the females queer.”

They add, “I was so happy to see that Waverly has now come out as pansexual, and is really proud in her queerness. That was so special for me to see.”
