Game Review & Impressions
---------------------------------------------------
Although I'd definitely have been the right age group at the time the cartoon was released, this series completely bypassed me. All that I really know is that Captain Bucky O'Hare, a space-faring anthropomorphic rabbit, and his crew do battle against the dastardly Toad Empire; I guess it's like Star Wars, only with more warts?

Despite my ignorance, there's absolutely no denying the production values on display here. Overall graphical quality and animation is the typical top-tier for Konami, who were clearly on a roll after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Wild West C.O.W. Boys of Moo Mesa. Whereas those titles were predominantly brawler and side-scrolling shooter respectively, Bucky O'Hare is a blend of the two genres. The game features a playfield where the player can move in all eight directions, in and out of the background, but combat is range-based, shooting phaser blasts and other projectiles. Although it is possible to initiate a close-range melee attack, most of the fighting is conducted with your guns,

Although it looks and sounds excellent, I'm less convinced about the actual gameplay; I can't quite put my finger on is why it doesn't feel as satisfying as it should. Maybe it's my lack of familiarity with the subject material, or perhaps it's because the ranged-based combat is less engaging than a brawler, I found myself enjoying this less overall than both TMNT and Moo mesa. It's by no means a bad game, because I'd happily play this if I saw this on the arcade floor, but there's just that constant nagging in the back of my mind that it's perhaps just a little bit bland.
