I recently got a great YT comment from my friend Zane over at @ZaneEngineersLife about how much a general contractor making under $1 million a year should spend on marketing. This is something I've thought about a lot over the years.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Factors like your local market and competition play a huge role. For example, a contractor in a smaller city might break the $1 million mark with a modest marketing budget (sub 1%), while in a competitive area like Los Angeles, you could be looking at a much higher spend (10-15%)
I also touch on the importance of knowing your own numbers—like revenue, profit, and the cost of acquiring a customer—so you can make smart decisions about where to put your marketing dollars.
Thanks again to Zane for the question, and if you haven’t checked out @ZaneEngineersLife yet, I highly recommend it.
