Community excavation on Lismore has identified an Early Christian monastic site which includes an enclosed cemetery, one oval stone building and evidence for a specialised craft workshop area in which fine pieces of jewellery and other intricately decorated objects were made, antler was worked, leather was embossed and stone was carved.

Dr Clare Ellis runs Argyll Archaeology, a commercial archaeology business– 20 years of digging mainly in Argyll – 5 seasons running the excavations on Lismore, committed to getting Lismore written up and published – funded by Society of Antiquaries to run the dig on Lismore on a number of occasions.

Dr Gemma Cruickshank is an artefact specialist and manages the post-excavation service at National Museums Scotland. She has a particular interest in the evidence for later prehistoric and early medieval metalworking and other crafts.
