Chile were the kings of South American football in the mid-2010s, winning the Copa América back-to-back in 2015 and 2016, climbing to third in the FIFA World Rankings, and only going out of the 2014 World Cup on penalties against Brazil.

Less than ten years on, Chile are now ranked 49th in the world, they are bottom of the CONMEBOL standings in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying, and they've only won one competitive game in over two-and-a-half years.
