Proxima D orbits the red dwarf star Proxima Centauri. This star is the closest neighbour to our Sun and is part of the Alpha Centauri triple star system. Alongside two other planets in the same system, Proxima Centauri d holds the distinction of being the closest known exoplanet to our Solar System. It resides approximately 4.2 light-years away in the constellation of Centaurus. The discovery of Proxima d emerged from radial velocity data collected by the Very Large Telescope during a study on the mass of another exoplanet, Proxima b, in 2020 🌟🪐
