The Juneteenth Day observance represents victory over the institution of slavery and the beginning of the fulfillment of America’s promise of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for Black Americans. The Army’s fundamental role in securing the freedom of over 250,000 Americans began with General Order No.3, issued by Union General Gordon Granger, June 19th 1865 in Galveston, Texas.
