Whistler Blackcomb has been sucking the past few weeks and much of the mountain has been an ice sheet, but there's always good snow somewhere in the backcountry. Today we checked out Phalanx mountain via a steep Backcountry couloir climb known as the Stairmaster Couloir. Our target was Warrior Couloir, but we couldn't manage the entrance so we decided to ski right back down the Stairmaster. We enjoyed the climb so much, we had to do it twice. The views from 2,441m at the top of Phalanx are picture perfect showcasing the sea of snow on the Spearhead glacier and the monstrous Wedge mountain in the horizon. We then enjoyed fresh snow for 665 meters of fall line down a route known as S-Turn. It was pretty incredible skiing across from spanky's ladder and getting a birdseye view of some of my favourite Whistler Blackcomb resort lines. Even though the conditions were bullet proof on the resort, the snow was incredible in the backcountry.
