AMH in female infertility what to do
Anti-Mullerian hormone or AMH is a hormone produced by the granulosa cells in your ovarian follicles. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the production of AMH is reflective of your ovarian reserve. AMH screening may prompt people to electively freeze their eggs,
I get a lot of patients of low AMH. They always have questions
like ,
What AMH levels can tell you?
Normal levels of amh?
Relation of AMH to FSH?
Can I get pregnant with low AMH?
Relation of AMH to pregnancy ?
chances with IVF treatment for AMH-related infertility?
What foods increase AMH levels?
can stress cause low amh?
What is a normal AMH level?
What is a good AMH level to get pregnant?
What is the role of AMH?
Can I get pregnant with low AMH?
This and a lot of questions are answered so that you comprehensively will understand what you need.
Can vitamin D improve AMH?
Vit D deficiency can reduce AMH levels and its restoration can improve AMH levesl
Can losing weight increase AMH?
AMH levels are not directly related to weight loss. Though high AMH levels of greater than 3.5 ng/ml are often seen in PCOS patients, weight loss is not directly related to change in AMH levels.
What are the symptoms of low AMH?
AMH is associated with difficulty in getting pregnant, late or scanty periods, shorter menstrual cycles less than 26 days or even increased abortions.
What cause AMH levels to drop?
Any surgery on the ovaries like ovarian cyst removal, endometriosis, autoimmune diseases, genetic diseases, cancer therapy can cause drop in AMH levels.
When should AMH be tested?
AMH can be tested at any time of the cycle. This is the advantage of AMH over FSH which is tested on D2/D3
What AMH level is needed for IVF?
Ideally the AMH levels before IVF should be greater than 1ng/ml. But pregnancy can still
be achieved with AMH as low as 0.5ng/ml provided one can get few good eggs.
How many eggs are retrieved with low AMH?
When less than 5 eggs are retrieved in an IVF cycle, it is termed as poor responder IVF cycle. This happens more often with low AMH.
Is high AMH bad?
No not really, high AMH means that the patient is most likely to be polycystic & hence the protocol for IVF needs to be tailored accordingly.
Is IUI possible with low AMH?
IUI is possible with low AMH if one responds to gonadotrophins injection and 1-2 eggs start forming in response
Can AMH be falsely low?
It can be falsely low in certain circumstances because of lab errors & AMH variability. The test has to be then repeated.
How reliable is AMH?
AMH is a very sensitive ovarian reserve marker test. Its levels can vary and sometimes decrease with smoking, oral contraceptive pills, low vitamin D levels & post ovarian surgery
