Title: Foundations of Numerical Relativity
Abstract: Our principal goal as relativists is to understand the solution space of general relativity. Certain regions of the solution space are at present inaccessible to methods of pure analysis, but can be accurately treated by numerical approximation. In this presentation I will give an introduction to the theory underpinning numerical relativity. As a primer for my second talk, I will pay particular attention to gravitational collapse.
