Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman as Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller was a show that gripped me when I first watched it. A detective show that centres as much on the community itself as it does on Alec and Ellie. Equally, Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan's characters Beth and Mark Lattimer are just as crucial protagonists.

Watching the end of Season 1 when it first aired on ITV, I never imagined they'd make a second series. In fact, they made a second and a third, detailing the what happens after the killer is caught, and then, what happens when the rest of the community moves on to consider to new tragedies. Season 2 is the aftermath of the first, and season 3 is the beginning of a new cycle all over again. Arguably, the show becomes not just a murder mystery but an exploration of grief, of a family's struggle to overcome grief, and the community dynamics happening all around it.
