Many objects considered inanimate in English are animate and spiritual in Anishinaabemowin. In fact, in Anishinaabemowin, it is difficult to speak of anything without integrating the spiritual aspect. Everything that is done, from teachings in school to creating a drum, is based on how to please the spirits.
