South Africa: Court to Rule on Plea Seeking Ramaphosa's Impeachment | Firstpost Africa

South Africa's Constitutional Court will hear a petition from two opposition parties that seek to revive the impeachment proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa over the Farmgate scandal. The court will hear the case next month. Opposition parties Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the African Transformation Movement say the parliament did not properly fulfil its constitutional role in holding the president to account. In 2022, Ramaphosa avoided an impeachment vote after the African National Congress used its majority in the parliament to block the motion. In elections earlier this year, the ANC lost its majority in the parliament but formed a government of unity with coalition parties including the Democratic Alliance.
