BIOGRAPHY

Emerging from the antifolk scene of the late 2000's, Isaac Gillespie has long been a local darling of the NY underground. Blending folk-song storytelling with the energy of punk and the elasticity of gospel, his band the Due Diligence was a mainstay in the golden age of Brooklyn DIY. All the while, Gillespie continued to write and sometimes perform (and in 2019 release) the more delicate songs of his acoustic beginnings. In 2009 Gillespie was making music with a young Shakey Graves (singing and playing on 'The Donor Blues' which he also co-wrote) while beginning to develop his own songs. After joining Speedy Ortiz's Sadie Dupuis on a last minute trip to SxSW, he became convinced in the power of having a band. The Due Diligence was soon established. Over the next nine years and three albums, people were pulled in - both audiences who found themselves dancing and singing along as well as the jazz and indie rock luminaries who played in the band on any given night. Due Diligence records contain members of Son Lux, Phosphorescent, Man Man and Ava Luna among many others. Beginning in 2019, Gillespie began releasing songs under his own name. In the midst of the Due Diligence years, Gillespie had co-fronted a psychedelic soul band with Landlady's Adam Schatz (The Shoe Ins - also featuring Sam Cohen and Ex Reyes' Mikey Freedom Hart). Schatz came along to help produce and mix the songs which were recorded by Sam Evian and released by Sonder House Records.
