Loving Dunya, Hating Death

Narrated Thawban رضي الله عنه:

The Prophet ﷺ said: The people will soon summon one another to attack you as people when eating invite others to share their dish. Someone asked: Will that be because of our small numbers at that time? He replied: No, you will be numerous at that time: but you will be scum and rubbish like that carried down by a torrent, and Allah will take fear of you from the breasts of your enemy and instill Wahn into your hearts.
Someone asked: What is Wahn?

Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): He replied:
"حُبُّ الدُّنْيَا وَكَرَاهِيَةُ الْمَوْتِ"‏
Love of the world and dislike of death.
[Sunan Abi Dawud 4297, Grade: Sahih]

Look at the Ummah today
_
How many muslims do you see, they are engrossed in this Dunya and only care about being successful here at the expense of losing the Akhira?

How many Muslims do you see,
They have an extreme love for mere people, celebrities, Muslim and Non-Muslim alike!
They'll idolise them even when they go against Islam and they'll choose these people over Allah ﷻ.

How many Muslims do you see filled and overcome with extreme love for the opposite gender,
To the point where they'll do anything for that person even if it means disobeying Allah ﷻ, Prophet ﷺ and their parents!
_
How then, can these same people then turn and say "I wish to go Jannah and I love Allah" in the same breath?
_
Coming back to our Hadith
And what does this weakness of loving the Dunya result in?
Allah ﷻ says:

فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ

And whoever transgresses

وَءَاثَرَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا

And prefers the life of this world

فَإِنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ هِىَ ٱلْمَأْوَىٰ

Then the Fire is his Abode.
[79:37-39]

Aisha رضي الله عنها reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him. Whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him.” I said, “O Prophet of Allah, all of us hate death and are averse to it.” The Prophet said, “It is not like this. Rather, when a believer is given glad tidings of the mercy of Allah, His pleasure, and Paradise, he loves to meet Allah and Allah loves to meet him. When a disbeliever is given news of punishment by the hand of Allah and hardship to be imposed by Him, he hates to meet Allah and Allah hates to meet him.”
[Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 157]

May Allah ﷻ protect us from the temptations of dunya and grant us Jannatul Firdous.
