"Saturnian Superplays" is a collection of gameplay clips of myself playing as Princess Remedy against opponents online in Slap City, put over (and partially synchronized with) the remix "Ruins and Bass" by NyxTheShield.

Ludosity's Slap City is a great video game. It's my favourite game in the platform fighter genre. The primary reason I put this video together was to show it off to people, so if you've never heard of it before, please check it out: https://slapcity.se

Some people would refer to this as a "combo video", but I won't explicitly title it as such, since relatively little of this video is actual combos. I'm not incredible at this game, and this video at least as much of a showcase of the game itself as it is of my relative skill as a player. Rather than combos, a lot of these clips are just chains, traps, and silly moments.

The version number of the game is displayed in the bottom-right of most clips, but all of this footage is from Slap City versions 0.9.9p1 and 0.9.10. (I really wish other "combo videos" would explicitly display version information more often.) These were all played in February—April 2020 as such. (I haven't been playing it very much lately, but only because I haven't had the time to.)

All these matches were played in the online ranked mode, except for a few that were with a friend of mine. The ranked lobby was usually empty, so I would often sit in the ranked lobby while working on other stuff at my PC, and get matched with an opponent once in a while. It was a fun way to take short, impromptu breaks from my work.

NyxTheShield's remix of the "Ruins Orchestral" / "Saturnian Superstar" track from Slap City, titled "Ruins and Bass", is available here:    • Slap City - Ruins and Bass [Remix by ...
I'm not really sure who this person is, actually. I just found their remix while searching around YouTube and decided to use it.

I tried to synchronize a lot of the gameplay clips to the music. This is something I rarely see in "combo videos", and I quite enjoy the format. (Perhaps this is unsurprising, given my background in YTPMVs.) I'm sure it's not for everyone though. I'm also not sure how well this video flows as a whole, but it is my first time making this specific sort of video content, so I cut myself some slack and tried not to worry about it too much while putting it together.

This video loops the song several extra times because I made it way too long. Sorry if the music gets a bit old as such. I just kept finding more clips I wanted to throw in, and I'm bad at choosing favourites. I did try to have some preferences when I was trimming things down, such as interesting or unique combos/chains (ie. not just a bunch of forward-aerials or up-aerials in a row), faster-paced footage, KOs, and games against more highly skilled opponents (I am definitely not the most skilled player out of all the ones depicted in these clips; I have not played this game for very long, after all).

Originally, I was going to remix "Saturnian Superstar" for this video myself, but I ended up using "Ruins and Bass" when I decided I wanted to play with this "synchronized" format since it has much heavier percussion to play along with.

All of this was played using both an Azeron Keypad and a keyboard. I created an AutoHotKey script to map these two devices to one virtual joystick for usage with Slap City. While this script does not have any macros, it does map buttons to specific directional moves (eg. I have buttons for side special left, side special right, up strong, down strong, etc.). This is to reduce physical stress on my hands while playing.

Creating this video was also an exercise in using Adobe Premiere Pro, which I hate a lot. It's such hot garbage. How does the audio stretching sound way worse than what I can do in my web browser? I can't believe this is the state of video editing software in the year 2020. Surely there's something better than this out there? I feel like I have fonder memories of using Sony Vegas back in the day than I do using Premiere now.

I stuck with straight cuts for the transitions between clips. I could've thrown in some of those "fancy" video transitions with blurs and flips and stuff as is so popular with Premiere, but that's a lot of extra work just to add things that seems intended to induce motion sickness.

Which clips in this video are your favourites, dear commenters?
