I'm the one who made that rather embarrassing viral Facebook live video of the full stadium-effect inside the eye of Hurricane Michael! The video was filmed on Facebook live which didn’t allow horizontal filming. Also, I’m a storm chaser but not professionally, so I was only doing this to cross it off my bucket list, not for the money. Getting footage was not my priority, but hopefully, this is good enough! I was too “in the moment” and my adrenaline was too high to even think about getting the best footage and pictures, and I normally get decent stuff (instagram: Stefan_1126). I made so many mistakes I regret, but the important part is that I enjoyed it and I get to share some of what I got with the world!

Oh and also, it seems I made some claims that didn’t sit well with some people. I said that we were probably one of the only few people in the world to witness something like that. I do stand by that claim, however, I would like to further explain why:

Most hurricanes that do make landfall do not have well-defined eyes where you can get clear skies with a full stadium effect visible. Usually, a number of things can happen: they may not have the conditions to reach the right intensity and develop a clear eye; they may undergo an eyewall replacement cycle where the old eyewall collapses and a new eyewall replaces it, or they just make landfall somewhere and the eye starts collapsing and getting cloudy. It usually takes a very intense hurricane to develop a clear eye with a full stadium effect and they rarely retain it through landfall. Also, consider that when hurricanes this strong hit, most people leave and the ones who do stay, are probably too scared to even think about going outside and looking up to the sky.
