Our kitchen was in need of some open kitchen shelves to replace a cabinet that had, well we'll say lost it's doors. We haven't done a lot of kitchen renovations, but these open kitchen shelves were a great way to dip our toes into the idea. I do not know a lot about kitchen design, but my wife has a good idea for kitchen design

I build the shelving brackets out of 1/4 mild steel, and the wood shelves were made from 8/4 ash. In all my DIY projects, I have not done a lot of metalworking, even basic metalworking. In fact, I do not think I have done ANY metalworking since highschool. We used a pretty inexpensive metal bender to make the shelf brackets.

At first we tried using a vise and a torch to make the metal shelving brackets, but the shelving brackets were not coming out very consistent. After watching a few 'how to make' video, I decided it made sense to buy a metal bender.
