روزِ ازل دی تینڈی ہُلّیِ ہاں
سک لے کے سینے جنگلیں رُلی ہاں
لکھاں دی ہامیں ہنڑں بے مُلی ہاں
رب جانڑں دا ھ جیڑی میں نبھائی اے


اج کل دی نہیں گال میں ہاں ڈوں دی مٹھڑی
ڈٹھڑا نہم ڈھول، نہ سن کے مٹھڑی
جاون والی رات لائی عشق گھٹڑی
میں کرماں ماری دی قسمت وہائی اے

زوری جو ویسو ونجن نہ ڈیساں
گل پا کےپلڑومنتاں کریساں
پیراں فقیراں دے ناویں دِویساں
سکدی کوں معراج والی رات آئی اے

جیندی ودی ہاں سوہنا تینڈے ساہ تے
اج تئیں نہ ڈٹھڑا تیں کنڈھ ولا کے
گھر زر لٹایم سوہنا تینڈے راہ تے
بے کس تو دنیا وچ تینڈی دہائی ہے

ساری سنڑیساں گزری وہانی
درداں دے قصے غم دی کہانی
قسمت بھرائیم در در دا پانی
تینڈے ذمے نہیں اساں آپ لائی اے

صابرؔ لگی پریت اصلوں نہ توڑیں
سر تئیں سہی تاں مردے نہ چھوڑیں
ایہا پیت لوڑھیں پر سک نہ چھوڑیں
ایہا پیت دی رِیت نازک سکھائی اے


English translation ||



My love, stay the night ! This meeting was ordained by God
We may never meet again, our life is fleeting

Acquiesce my love, acquiesce and stay here with me
In God's name, do not leave me longing
Each atom of my existence shall bow in thankfulness
I have made vows of fealty at many a shrine for this night

It is against the norms of love to leave the nuptial bed
Stay just this one night, I swear it is no sin
The joining of two hearts is not a forbidden act
God himself is my witness, for He has loved as well

This ache shall remain in my heart forever
This cruel act will leave me longing forever
Till my grave, I will carry this wound in my heart
If you turn your back and leave my welcoming arms

Since the day of creation, i have been pledged to you
I have wandered the wilderness with an ache in my heart
I, who once gloried in riches, am now a worthless wretch
God alone knows how faithfully I have loved

Mine is not a new infatuation, I have loved since eternity
I have scarcely heard the voice of my Beloved, let alone caught sight of him
On this night of separation, my love is forsaking me again
Such is the bad luck this wretch has been afflicted with

If you try to leave by force, I shall not let you go
I shall throw my shawl around you, I shall plead and plead
I shall beseech you in the name of the holy saints and mystics
For my long suffering heart, this night is akin to the night of Me'raj

If I am living and breathing, each breath is borrowed from you
Yet you have never turned once your gaze towards me
I have sacrificed home and hearth in the path of your love
In my destitute state, I can turn to none but you

Tonight I shall tell all that has been wrought upon me
All the tales of my anguish, all the stories of my suffering
How my fate made me scramble from pillar to post
Do not think that I blame you, I have brought this upon myself

Sabir, do not let go of the love that you have nurtured since Creation
Endure all that befalls you, till death do you part
Strive for love, never let go of the longing in your heart
For this love is a lesson that precious few have learnt
