In this video we're going to take a look at ComMarker's new Omni 1 UV laser engraver. This machine has a 5W 355nm UV laser which has a much higher absorption rate than more common lasers like fiber, diode and ir, so it can mark, engrave and cut materials with very low power compared to these other lasers by using a photolytic degradation process - also known as cold laser marking - that breaks down chemical bonds directly, resulting in minimal heat stress on the material. This makes it an ideal all material marking machine that's particularly great for using on materials with high melting points like metal and glass, as well as sensitive materials like paper, fabric and even food with no risk of damage or carbonization, and it can do this at speeds of up to 10000mm/s with amazing accuracy thanks to the laser's 0.002mm spot size, which is less than 1/20th of a typical fiber laser's spot size.
