From 1981 to 1995, the PSL had a team either win the state championship (eight state championships) or finish second in the state (11 runners-up finishes). In 1987, 1989, 1991, and 1994 the state champions and runner-up both hailed from the PSL. Since 1995, the PSL has only had five teams (Central, Douglass, Henry Ford, Pershing, and Western) win state championships in boys basketball.
