Machiavellianism is not the same as psychopathy and narcissism (starts 26:00).

Machiavellians (high MACHs) are unemotional, immoral, manipulative, and exploitative – but not mentally ill.

Covert states - as opposed to overt states - are exclusive because they are compensatory to the failure of the preferred type (fixated, obsessive-compulsive) and sometimes are transient.

The borderline has a combination of an internalized good object and an externalized (behavioral) bad object. She is terrified of the partner grasping this duality at the core of the borderline personality organization and ending up driven away by the bad object.
