Here is a quick video about how to change the oil on an XR650L. 1993-2013

When you drain the oil, open the frame drain and case drain together allowing all the oil to leave the bike.

Manual specifies to replace 2.04 US Quarts during an oil change. Folks love to argue about this amount and it all depends on how high you want the oil to register on the dipstick. I would stick between 2.0 and 2.5 quarts.

Torque specs
Case Drain Plug - 22-29 ft lbs
Frame Down Tube Drain Plug - 18-23 ft lbs
Filter Cover Bolts - 5-7 ft lbs for allen head, 7-9 for hex lbs. Don't over tighten these.
