The Lucid Motors Gravity looks like the 3-row EV SUV to beat! As long as you can afford the ~$80,000 starting price... If you have a Volvo EX90 or Rivian R1S on order, or you’re shopping for a Model X alternative, put your purchase on hold because you’ll want to check this SUV out. ✋

At first glance the numbers seem insane and impossible: 440+ miles of range, 3.5 seconds to 60, 200 miles of charging in 15 minutes, AND 7 seats. But that's exactly what Lucid is saying we'll get.

The 900V architecture doesn’t just charge rapidly, it’s also extremely efficient allowing over 500 miles of range in the Air sedan and it looks like all of that tech has been massaged into the boxier Gravity.

We don’t know horsepower, battery, or legroom/headroom numbers yet, but let’s talk about what we do know. We know it’ll have a somewhat “sport wagon” vibe thanks to the seemingly low roofline and long proportions. From some angles it seems boxy, from others it seems sleek. I think it’s handsome combo. The shapes also appear to belie the size of the Gravity which will offer 112 cubic feet cargo space (including frunk). That puts it 22 cubes OVER a BMW X7.

Seating capacity will be 7, at least for now, and Lucid has yet to send us any pictures of the third row but we know seating will be 2+3+2 with the third row always being a 2-seat setup. My guess is that like other luxury segment vehicles there will be a 6 seat version at some point.

The interior is largely similar to the Air sedan with a few tweaks. The biggest is the steering wheel which has been squared off rather than just flat bottomed like we see in the sedan. There’s still the enormous windshield/roof combination glass up front and a huge driver’s LCD. It’s 34 inches and will contain drivers controls, the instrument cluster and mapping. There’s also a dedicated infotainment display between the front seats. Not a fan of screen controlled air vents? Neither is Lucid, we get regular easy-to-adjust vents front and rear.

In the second row we have shoulder belts integrated into the seats which should make getting in and out of the third row easier and perhaps simplify access if you have a child seat belted into place. The floor is as flat as you’d expect and there is of course another pane of glass over the back seats.

What do you think of the newest 3-row EV? Is this enough to get you to step away from a Rivian R1S order? It’s likely larger than an EX90, although again, we have almost no hard numbers on the dimensions. How about a Model X? I suspect if I had $80 large to drop on a new family hauler, this is the direction I’d lean…
