Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, has been arrested on NAB orders as he entered a plea in an unrelated corruption case in Islamabad, with dozens of security personnel in riot gear forcing him into an armoured vehicle.

Imran Khan was apprehended only hours after releasing a video message in which he reiterated his claims that the nation's formidable military establishment had twice attempted to murder him. Imran Khan was forced from office last year and has managed to avoid arrest numerous times since.

The popular former prime minister is at odds with the military and the administration led by his replacement, Shehbaz Sharif, who Khan claims plotted to both remove him from power and issue threats. Khan's detention is the most recent development in this political and economic turmoil.
