To understand New Zealand, a traveller must learn about the concept of whānau – a Māori concept of extended family. From the world’s largest hot water spring, to cooking an underground hāngi, and the art of custom jade carving, we investigate some of the different communities where whanau is found in New Zealand.

In Part 2 of our exploration, RICE’s Grace Yeoh visits Rotorua and then flies down South to Hokitika to understand how to become a part of this family, and a part of New Zealand.
