Visualization is one of the most important skills of a chess player. In this video, IM Kostya Kavutskiy will show you how to specifically work on your visualization skills and explain you several methods which help you to train your visualization abilities.

There are several methods to train your visualization skills:

1. Method:
Closing your eyes and imagining a chess board. Your only task is to choose a random square, e.g. the c5-square and try to figure out what colour it has.

2. Method:
Choose a knight and place it somewhere on the imagined chess board e.g. the f5-square. In the next step, you have to choose another random square, let’s say the b4-square. After coming up with these two squares in your mind, your task is to find the quickest route to bring the f5-knight to the b4-square. Usually there is going to be more than one way for a knight to reach another square in the quickest number of moves possible. Your task is to find the fastest way. In order to challenge yourself, you can try to find all the different routs for the knight. The same task can be done with the bishop.

3. Method:
Play blindfold chess with a friend or alone.
