In the former freight liner Hendrika lies an Imob La Roche of 60 hp from 1939. ‘A rather unknown engine,’ tells skipper and caretaker Nijs van Noordennen, ‘I’ve seen it nowhere before.’ The Hendrika was built in 1913 by Paans in Roodevaart and sailed between Rotterdam and Zeeland, Noord-Brabant and Zuid-Holland. In 1968 she was saved from the scrap yard and since then has been the guard ship of the scouting group Matthijs Heldt from Zevenbergen. About the Imob almost nothing is known. ‘I can’t put a type number on it,’ says Van Noordennen. ‘I’ve looked around the entire world for some information, but you can’t find anything on the Internet.’ Van Noordennen starts the engine and takes us sailing on the Roode Vaart.
