In last week's video, we showed you how to back off a parking brake that is stuck on a drum in hat rotor. If you are replacing that rotor, you will likely have to adjust the parking brake so that it is snug against the drum.
One option is to install the rotor and then use the access hole to adjust the parking brake. This method takes some trial and error. You will need to spin the rotor as you adjust the brakes until you feel a slight drag against the drum.
However, there is an easier method. You can use a drum brake resetting gauge to measure the diameter of the drum. Then you have the corresponding measurement on the other side of the gauge for the parking brakes. You want the gauge to perfectly fit between the parking brakes. If there is play or the gauge can't fit, you will need to adjust the parking brake.
Once you have adjusted the parking brake, install the rotor and spin it. You should feel the parking brakes slightly dragging against the drum. However, it shouldn't impede your ability to spin the rotor.
Make sure to measure lateral runout before putting the wheels back on.
