Active holidays with adventure, hiking and sightseeing - on his journey through Luxembourg, Ramon Babazadeh experienced many a surprise between the rivers Moselle, Alzette and Sauer. On a balloon flight over Schengen, the symbol of European freedom, he gets an initial overview. (You can find more "beautiful" in the media library: https://1.ard.de/wunderschoen-luxembu... )

He later learns that vines for the Luxembourg Crémant are also grown here. Whether hiking and climbing in the wild and romantic Müllerthal, mountain biking over the red earth in the former ore mining area in the south or sightseeing with a running group in Luxembourg City - Ramon Babazadeh conquers the country in a sporty way. But there is no shortage of enjoyment either: he makes a detour to a cheese dairy, tries the Cassero currant liqueur at Beaufort Castle and helps star chef Lea Linster with the preparation of Madeleines. Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn, with whom Ramon Babazadeh talks about the European idea on the cable car ride to Vianden Castle, is close to the people. And Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg reveals a long-kept secret to him during a tour of the palace.

114,000 people from 170 nations live in Luxembourg City. On a jog with the "FatBettys", Ramon Babazadeh feels what makes this country special: diversity, joie de vivre and openness. This also applies to Grand Duchess María Teresa Mestre Batista. The native Cuban, who has been married to Hereditary Grand Duke Henri von Nassau for over 40 years, shows Ramon Babazadeh her favorite places – and gives him a look behind the scenes of the palace.

In the south of the country, the "Minette" containing iron ore has colored the soil red - and given the region its name. 40 years after the last iron ore mine was closed, the "Terre Rouge" is a paradise for nature lovers and mountain bikers. Iron ore made Esch-sur-Alzette rich. The European Capital of Culture 2022 has developed from the former center of the iron and steel industry into a modern workshop for ideas.

Luxembourg has the highest density of palaces and castles in Europe. Ramon Babazadeh reaches Brandenburg Castle together with the "Velosvedetten", a singing women's racing bike club. Beaufort Castle has not been inhabited since 2012. But you can visit it and taste Cassero, the blackcurrant liqueur produced here.
