UNIFEM statistics are terrible: in the world 1 in 3 women suffer physical, sexual or psychological violence. For the mere fact of being a woman. (cf. #AmnestyInternational)

Alabama, shoot him!
Clarence, take her away!

—————————————————

It is already evening. I finish the usual dinner at the Big Kahuna Burger, I’ll call the usual Big Jerry and risk missing the flight of the usual Air O as usual. I think of friends, of that immense universe that ended who knows where. I get lost in it. Just the time that yet another Red Apple is consumed.
Who knows what you’re doing, Alabama.
If you still need a gun. Or me.
If an idea still makes your eyes shine
like when you were young.

THE VIDEO

initially had to pay homage to one of the films that I know by heart and that marked my childhood: #Nightmare 6 - The End.

Let’s start by saying that #Polly was Kurt’s parrot. I think #Kurt must have looked at him in a cage and he must have felt like a kidnapper because in the lyrics he takes on the tones of a maniac and Polly of a kidnapped, tortured and raped teenager.
#Cobain, inspired by a news story, decides to write a love song about rape, from the point of view of the deranged.
What better villain I could have chosen to the
video if not #FreddyKrueger?

I finally chose to tell the video from Polly’s point of view. I had thought of #BrittanyMurphy but then the choice fell on #PatriciaArquette that debuts at the cinema with a Nightmare, the third.
I chose Patricia as #Alabama. A character whose splendor dazzled me as a child. Alabama is the protagonist of #TrueRomance: a movie that accompanied the hot summer evenings of the #90s. In Italy it was broadcast systematically on TMC. It is directed by #TonyScott and the screenplay is by a young #QuentinTarantino, who would arrive at the big screen soon as a director with #ReservoirDogs. True Romance is a typical Tarantino story. The touch of the creator of the #Pulp is very recognizable.

The most attentive and passionate know that his characters are part of a single shared universe and in his movies there is always a link or a reference to a character or an event of another movie.
In Reservoir Dogs, for example, #MrWhite claims to have mentored a certain Alabama.
Quentin and Kurt also had great mutual respect. The director had thought of the musician for the role of #Lance in #PulpFiction: the dealer of #VincentVega, brother of #MrBlonde of Reservoir Dogs.

Returning to the video, the montage in just two minutes of song, does not tell True Romance, but takes on another meaning.
I would like to dwell on two scenes of the film that I chose to put in sequence. The scenes are similar but the characters are inverted: first we see the love of Alabama, #Clarence (played by #ChristianSlater, great icon of the 90s) at the wheel, take away Alabama visibly unconscious and bleeding, then we see Alabama driving and Clarence leaning on her, unconscious and with a bloody blindfold. The scenes in the film are far away. Putting them in sequence I wanted to give the idea that in the midst of #TrueLove there can be a thousand obstacles, wrong situations, contrasts, antagonists, violence, abuse, trauma and that sometimes it hurts one, sometimes the other. Sometimes he tries to take her away, sometimes she tries to take him away.
We are not sure that Clarence and Albama will manage to escape together but the video ends with Alabama holding a gun and shooting for the first time.
I like to think she’s finally free.
And like her, all Polly in the world.

THE SONG

I was advised to make a series of #cover like this, in another key, totally distorting the original #song. It would be a way to bring the #NewGeneration closer to the #music that counts by adopting a fresh language and more understandable by young people today.
I don’t think so. #TheDoors, #PinkFloyd, #KingCrimson were the soundtrack to my adolescence even though they were not music of my generation. I believe that music is immortal and that as never before, with the means we have, it can be reached at any time.
I had no purpose in doing this #NirvanaCover. Like most of my work came out quite randomly.
I was on my way, thinking about Polly’s chorus.
I thought the way it’s structured, a #rapper could write it. And that’s how the song started to resonate in my mind like it was sung by #2PAC. Over and over again, until I got home and decided to reproduce what my mind was suggesting. Then it came out like this, much closer to the #Trap than I had conceived it as old school #HipHop.
It’s just a draft, the last verse is missing too. But as I always do, I tested it in my headphones on the street. And I have to say it works. I am very satisfied with my work. It made me fly.
I hope it does the same to you.
