I get asked all the time about what types of materials I use to create my fine art printmaking editions.

If you are a printmaker who wonders what printmaking supplies I use to create linocut relief prints, this video explains all you want to know about the base art I carve, or the printmaking block.

If you are someone who wants to try printmaking for the first time – the soft linoleum is a great product to start with!

Here are the links to the materials mentioned in my video.

SOFTOLEUM
((UPDATE OCT 2020)) My favorite base carving medium for printmaking is a product called Softoleum. It is no longer available from Aboveground Art Supplies in Toronto, but a fellow printmaker helped me find it in Canada here in the Nasco website: https://spectrum-nasco.ca/en/soft-kut.... What I love about this material is that it is soft, but really dense. It holds an amazing line, washes up nicely without warping, and it was durable because it is so dense.

Dick Blick – online USA
If you are in the USA, I haven’t really seen the same thing as Softoleum online, but Soft Kut would be the closest to the material I use. You can find it at http://www.dickblick.com/products/sof...

SPEEDBALL SPEEDY CUT (BEIGE)
Speedball makes a good soft linoleum, but it can “crumble” slightly, so just make sure you are using really sharp carving tools. Also a note about the beige speedy cut is that it can be used over and over, but after about 3-5 years, it does tend to yellow and dry out a bit.

Canada – buy at many local art supply stores, or online at:

BAREN
The printmaking baren (red) I’ve shown in the video can be purchased at many art supply stores, or online.
