We have begun our Austrian trip to Salzburg. Salzburg is known as the birthplace of W. A. Mozart and was also the filming location for "The Sound of Music". The city's narrow lanes and broad squares are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Some of the highlighted places are Hohensalzburg Fortress and Mirabell Palace. Hohensalzburg Fortress is situated high on the Festungsberg, offering a 360-degree view of the city and its surroundings. It is the largest fully preserved castle in Central Europe and is a symbol of Salzburg.

Mirabell Palace and the Mirabell Garden are popular attractions in Salzburg and are both part of the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Mirabell Garden, along with the Felsenreitschule and the Nonnberg convent, served as one of the principal settings in the Hollywood musical The Sound of Music. In the film, the characters sing and dance around the Pegasus fountain behind Mirabell Palace, and the view through the garden to the Palace has become world-famous.

We had the opportunity to attend a Mozart concert at Mirabell Palace. The palace is decorated with stunning gold-plated carvings and marble sculptures. It was an unforgettable experience listening to some of the greatest concertos ever written in such a beautiful setting.
