You might wonder how Fool Hollow Lake got its name. The name "Fool Hollow" originated from a local legend in the 19th century, adding a touch of history to its charm. Back in 1885, when Thomas Jefferson Adair settled in the area with plans to farm, the locals humorously remarked that only a fool would attempt to farm such a place. The name Fool Hollow stuck, and even though the small town of Adair has since been submerged by the lake, it’s Adair’s ill-fated farming venture that lives on in the lake’s name.
