Building and installing a sliding cargo tray in a 2013 Nissan Frontier. The sliding track was made using 1" ball bearings from Harbor Freight, and 1.5" angle aluminum from Home depot. The tray was made with 1/2" finished plywood, cut to size at Home Depot, and covered with carpeting.

There are very elaborate sliding trays made for pickup trucks, but they cost $1000 and also are not available for the frontier. Those sliding trays slide all the way out and hold hundreds of pounds. I estimate this tray holds at least 300 lbs, distributed.

It can be easily removed to haul heavier items or if you need the space.

The goal of this project was to make something for under $200, make it with basic hand and power tools (Circular Saw, Sawzall, electric drill), and to build and install it within a weekend.

I painted the surround, which was made of 1x 4" pine. This could also have been carpeted, and I may do this in the future, as it would give it a more finished look and also help avoid scratching luggage and other items as the painted wood might. Might be more durable as well.
