In 2024, the Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh has been facing a serious crisis due to a string of wolf attacks. Since March, these attacks have escalated, particularly during the monsoon season starting mid-July, with at least 10 people killed, including nine children, and around 36 injured by early September.

Experts suggest that these wolves might be acting out of revenge, possibly due to habitat loss or the killing of their cubs, as indicated by previous incidents where human actions provoked similar wolf behaviors. Some cubs were reportedly killed in Bahraich earlier in the year, possibly triggering the wolves' aggression. A major combing operation has been underway, involving hundreds of forest officials and drones, to capture or neutralize the remaining wolves.

Despite capturing four wolves, locals remain concerned, as attacks continue. The forest department has issued "capture or kill" orders to prevent further casualties. Villagers are urged to remain indoors at night, and efforts to ensure safety are ongoing with additional personnel and resources deployed to the region.
